The Spanish Cannon, a bronze howitzer, is mounted on a granite base near the south end of Military Park. It was part of the armament of Morro Castle, Santiago Harbor, Cuba. The cannon was captured by the United State forces on July 2, 1898 and presented to Newark in 1899. The bronze table on the pedestal gives the history of the piece, which was made from older Spanish cannons.
