Images in Time

After qualifying on the Weequahic Park race track, Fred Graef of the Newark Bay View Wheelmen won the U.S. Olympic Road Cycling Championship in Chicago, in 1940.  Pictured on right is Fred Graef on the bankboard track of the Humboldt Park Bike Bowl in Chicago where Graef also competed in the bankboard track racing finals.  On the bicycle with Graef is Nat Bodian, author of the entry on Weequahic Park as a Sports Site, and then a sports reporter for the Newark Star-Ledger.
