The Wars of America monument is a bronze sculpture designed by Gutzon Borglum. It contains 42 humans and 2 horses and is located in Military Park, as the grip of a sword. The base is made from granite taken from Stone Mountain in Georgia. It was erected in1926 and its intent is to honor all of America's war dead. Borglum was quoted as saying "The design represents a great spearhead. Upon the green field of this spearhead we have placed a Tudor sword, the hilt of which represents the American nation at a crisis, answering the call to arms." Newark businessman Amos Hoagland Van Horn (furniture & carpeting) funded the work with $100,000. The monument is part of the National Register of Historic Places.
